I was intrigued by the description of this one, so I had to pick it up, though I hadn't read the previous books in the series about Esme and Jed - and now I think I'll be going back to make sure I do!

I was thrilled to discover that the story is set in my own home town, over a century ago, so the familiar descriptions and locations were wonderful. Steampunk Swan River and a machine modelled on a kangaroo...who'd have thought?

A sweet story about love and loyalty - and, like the lamington cakes Jed likes, liberally sprinkled with curses, vengeance and an old lady who'd make Lady Catherine de Burgh think twice before crossing her. Just watch out for the tabbies...
