Death in a Northern Town edition by Peter Mckeirnon Literature Fiction eBooks

I have read a lot of zombie and other apocalyptic novels over the past decade and this was definitely not one of the better ones. Most novels have a likeable "hero" that is more capable than others of surviving and helping others to survive also. The main characters in this book were very unlikeable and very stupid. Also, the author's attempt at humor was just awful. The strongest character of this book was a teenage girl. The dad is a spineless, useless man. Also, I expect a certain amount of gore, but ths author repeatedly had to describe (in too much detail IMO) the vomiting and diarrhea of the characters. There was so much time spent on this that I just ended up skipping and skimming pages. Then he also chose in the middle of the story for seemingly no reason at all to vividly describe the character having an attack of gas in a sealed up car, due to his mayonnaise consumption. This was just gross and had no point to it other than to be disgusting. If it was meant to be funny, it wasn't. Almost all of the characters are unlikeable and the events are very unbelievable (I.e.. a bride-to-be starts stabbing people with a butcher knife and drives covered in blood and gore so she won't be late to her wedding?) This is just my personal preference, but I like to read about likeable, intelligent characters that I can relate to. The two main characters of this book are about as dumb and unlikeable as they can get.

Death in a Northern Town edition by Peter Mckeirnon Literature Fiction eBooks Reviews

I enjoyed this book for the story line and yes the humor in it. The humor that was portrayed along the story line by Dave and John and then the others I thought helped make the book. Among the gore, the humor made me chuckle at times. Yes I do think that there is a few people that I personally know that would be like this in the middle of a Zombie Apocalypse. Wont give out story lines as normal with my reviews but it is a good read.
Death in a Northern Town is gruesome, scary, and funny! Not too many author's combine gruesome singleness with really good humor. Gloom , doom, and humor make an entertaining story. This story should be adapted for the big screen.
(I'm recalling Shaun of the Dead and Zombieland)
I speak american. There is no better way to express language than the way my cousins across the sea, real English.
I highly recommend Peter Mckeirnon' s work.
I just loved this book. This has to be one of the funniest zombie books I've ever read. Oh there is plenty of danger and gore too, but you'll laugh all of the way through. I can't wait to start the next one.
Book # 1 in a series of three books. You will definitely by the other to books, after reading this one. This is well-written, and the characters are at best to say, most unusual. This book has everything....the usual Zombie horror, fear, anger, grief ....mix this together with the author's wit and peculiar sense of humor. Excellent read.
Death in a Northern Town
I did like this book - Dave & John are great characters and I enjoyed their story. What I didn't like as much were the other story lines - most of the characters in those died (just as I was rooting for them) and for the ones that lived, I was left wanting to know more about what happen to them (like the guy who saves the 2 kids or the store clerk and security guard who lock themselves in the department store). But, really, just minor complaint, I'd read a sequel, if the author writes one.
I've gotta say there are a lot of things that can put off a reader this book contained none of that. Straight forward into the story no long boring introductions into every character. You get to know the characters in a way that is not painful and boring and the cast of characters is very varied - some one for everyone to associate with. The action is pretty much non stop from the get go and while there are side stories the side stories tie into the main story other than just happening at the same time or the same city they actually come together! In some of the books I've read the writer tries way too hard to - oh I don't know what would be the right word but I'm going to say they try to seem far more intelligent....that puts me off... not this writer his intelligence shows in the story line but he doesn't need to use useless streams of words and sentences to prove it. Very down to earth writing style that can be enjoyed by all who read it.
I tried this book and I made it 53% through it on my . I just didn't like it very much. The main character is just boring to me. The best and worst part of the book is 80's Dave. He is really funny and I loved all the 80's references, but at the same time I hated how he talked. It's like the author was just trying as hard as he could to bash you over the head reminding you he talked in this weird way, it was really annoying.

Another thing that I didn't like was that the author would write dialogue in italics instead of just using quotation marks. It was mildly annoying because that meant I was constantly going back and forth between regular text and italics.

So even though I didn't finish the book, I feel the book deserves 2 stars instead of 1 because the author does have talent in describing the world he has created and he made an interesting character in the form of 80's Dave. It just wasn't for me. You may like it, but I have to pass on this.
